Incentive prize for a young art critic

Jury decision

The Jury of the AICA Incentive Award for a young critic is pleased to announce the winners of its 2019 edition.

Wenting Tao

Wenting Tao

The AICA Incentive Award 2019 goes to Wenting TAO, with her text How the Curatorial Stereotyping of Chinese Art Essentializes the Work of Zheng Guogu.
Wenting Tao is a writer based in Shanghai. Aside from art, she likes to write and think about poetry, math and philosophy. She loves drawing children's stories and hopes to create a children's book series one day.
Mrs Tao will be joining us in Berlin to present her text during the award ceremony on October 5th at Berlinische Galerie.


In addition to the winning prize, the Jury decided for two special mentions.

Jaka Lombar

Jaka Lombar

A Special Mention goes to Jaka Lombar for his text Reactivating the Archive Must Entail Tearing Down the Palimpsest of Populism
Jaka Lombar is a postgraduate student at the University of Amsterdam. He previously studied film and screen studies at the University of Cambridge and the University of St Andrews. His research interests include film theory, spatiality of the moving images and film and the archive.

Qianfan Gu

Qianfan Gu

The second Special Mention goes to Qianfan Gu for her text Whose China?
Qianfan Gu is a New York-based independent art writer. Her writing has appeared in Art in America, Artforum, artnet China, Flash Art, the Art Newspaper China, Esquire China, among many others. She also co-founded GONG PRESS, an experimental project for art publications.
